What is it ?
Founded in early 2007, Build Up North Staffordshire aims to ensure that the wealth created by major building and regeneration projects across the region benefits local companies.
It also makes sourcing high quality services as easy as possible for buyers from large companies working in the area.
It acts as a support network highlighting tender opportunities within the public and private sector to enable local companies to bid for this work. Training is also offered to companies needing to develop and enhance their employees’ skills set and give themselves the best possible chance of successfully competing for work.
Over 500 suppliers of services to the construction industry have signed up from bricklayers and plumbers to electricians and architects, along with dozens of influential contractors, and such is the success of this innovative support network that it has now been expanded to offer the same level of service to the Low Carbon and Creative Industries.
Organisations such as Kier Stoke, Mansell, Lovell Construction, Aspire, North Staffordshire Housing, Compendium, as well as Stoke on Trent City Council, currently use Build Up to source and buy construction related services.
Build Up project manager, Nigel Barrett explains: “The original remit was to make sure that building companies, supply chains and anybody linked to the construction sector based in North Staffordshire was in the best possible shape to benefit from the investments being made.”
“We are currently telling our members about an average of £10m worth of contracts each month. Local construction businesses have prospered as a result of joining Build Up, we want to help local companies in the Low Carbon and Creative Industries to experience the same level of benefits and growth” says Nigel.
In addition, the help and advice given to local companies by Build Up, through Business Link West Midlands, has been a huge success.
Build Up North Staffordshire is using the area’s regeneration as an opportunity to create flourishing local Construction, Low Carbon and Creative Industries that truly benefit from the millions of pounds worth of building and development projects currently planned for North Staffordshire.
How does it work?
|
Build Up North Staffordshire operates a free of charge web-based database, designed to link local businesses with each other as well as to the larger contracting opportunities within the area to create a vibrant local supply chain covering the Construction, Low Carbon and Creative Industries.
If you are a buyer of services:
You may be looking for a team of plumbers to work with you on a major housing development, a graphic designer to design your new website or for advice on installing ground source heat pumps, whatever your needs, Build Up North Staffordshire will have the suppliers who can help.
Buyers can also post their requirements on the site and invite Build Up members to tender.
If you register as a supplier of services:
Build Up opens new doors to smaller local firms working in the Construction, Low Carbon and Creative Sectors. Companies looking for more work, register details of their areas of expertise and contact information, to enable potential buyers to get in touch with them. Registered suppliers also have exclusive access to millions of pounds worth of contract opportunities posted on the website every month, together with notification of contract opportunities from the local councils.
In addition, suppliers can use the database to find companies with whom they can link up and jointly bid for larger projects.
Companies are also given access to training and advice to ensure that their business is in the best position to successfully bid for work.
